The Spiritual Way to Quit Smoking

Interview with the Author, Joseph Weaver, RN

From the Beverly Copeland Report, a New Book Focuses on Treating All Aspects of Nicotine Adiction
New York, NY – First it was California. Then New York City. Now the whole Republic of Ireland. All three places – and hundreds more – have enacted total smoking bans in public areas. No matter what side of the fence you are on when it comes to the issue of smoking, most people agree that it is an unhealthy choice, but one that is extremely difficult to stop. In fact the use of pills, inhalers, nasal sprays, gum, and patches to help smokers kick the habit has become an $800 million business in the United States alone. In some instances people have become addicted to the product much like they were to the cigarette.

“Most people fail [to quit smoking] because they only address the physical cravings instead of the whole addiction,” says Joseph P. Weaver, author of The Tao of Quitting Smoking (Hats Off Books, ISBN 1-58736-315-1). Weaver, winner of the 2002 American Cancer Society’s Great American Smoke-out Award for leadership, knows what he is talking about. A former three-pack-a-day smoker, he was able to quit completely using techniques he learned while traveling through Tibet and Nepal and even lost weight in the process.
The Tao of Quitting Smoking is a spiritual guide written in a no-nonsense Dr. Phil-like way complete with homework assignments. Examining every level of the smoking experience, Weaver addresses why people start smoking, the effects of nicotine and other poisons in cigarettes, how to use meditation instead of nicotine, and how to say goodbye permanently to tobacco to become a happy, healthy non-smoker.
Joseph P. Weaver has been a non-smoker for five years and has committed his life to helping others “nic the habit.” He offers a variety of workshops and lectures based on his technique throughout the New York City area as well as a web site,www.cigarettesmokingkills.com, designed to give smokers the tools and support needed to quit.
